As the home of Federal Parliament from 1927 to 1988, Old Parliament House is synonymous with some of Australia’s most important moments, including the declaration of war in 1939 and the dismissal of the Whitlam Labor Government in 1975. Today Old Parliament House is a nationally listed heritage site and award-winning tourist attraction.

Old Parliament House empowers people to take an active role in democracy by inspiring them to explore and participate in democratic practices. Learning products are curriculum-based, relating to Civics and Citizenship, SOSE/HSIE and Australian History.

Exciting changes in 2009!

In May 2009 Old Parliament House will open new exhibitions exploring Australian democracy, past, present and future. New learning experiences will include exhibitions, interpreted heritage spaces and interactive technology.
